Harold And Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay is the sequel to Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. The film is planned for release on April 25, 2008 with John Cho and Kal Penn returning as the duo of stoners and Paula Garcés as Harold’s love interest Maria. Neil Patrick Harris also returns as a satirical version of himself.

Film production began the third week of January 2007 in Shreveport, Louisiana, and finished in March.

New additions to the cast are comedian Jon Reep and former Daily Show correspondents Rob Corddry and Ed Helms. Others include David Krumholtz, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jack Conley, Roger Bart, Danneel Harris, Eric Winter, Adam Herschman, Richard Christy, and Brandon Routh.

Plot

The movie will pick up where the first movie left off. It will follow Harold Lee and Kumar Patel on their trip to Amsterdam, where Harold hopes to find Maria, the girl of his dreams. On board the plane, Kumar is mistaken for a ‘bomb carrying terrorist’ while the pair are trying to use a bong on board a plane en route to Amsterdam. They are incarcerated in a Guantanamo Bay detention camp but manage to escape.

The movie follows their adventures as fugitives from the United States Department of Homeland Security as they travel through Miami to Texas and ultimately find themselves in the ranch-house of President George W. Bush.

Reaction

Daily Variety declared Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay “‘Animal House‘ meets ‘Dr. Strangelove” and called it “one of the ballsiest comedies to come out of Hollywood in a long time.”

The Guardian praised Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay as “one of the most raucous screenings I’ve ever attended. Even the opening credits were wildly applauded, and much of the dialogue was inaudible over the laughter.”

UnderGroundOnline observed that Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay “has a wonderful, stream-of-consciousness quality that hasn’t been seen since the early work of John Waters or, to a certain extent, Monty Python.”

Cinema Blend stated that “if you loved the first one you’re going to piss yourself laughing at this.”

Trivia

Advertising

In October 2007, a “coming soon” poster featuring Neil Patrick Harris began circulating on the Internet. Showing Harris astride a unicorn, the advertisement poses the question What would NPH do?
